Transition Planning for Military Families

Academic Planning for Military Families

  • All classes at Enterprise follow the state guidelines, but we know that some students have special circumstances. Please feel free to reach out to Jobie Woltman (woltman.jobie@brevardschools.org) with any concerns.

  • Some things that Enterprise has in place to assist students are:

    • Multi Tier Systems of Support (MTSS)

    • Academic Support Program (ASP)

  • While the state of Florida officially states that 6th grade students are middle school students, Brevard Public Schools house their 6th grade students in the elementary building. Therefore, they are held to the same promotional requirements as all other middle school students. In sixth grade, we also begin preparation for which middle school each student will attend.

  • Information regarding academic standards and opportunities, graduation requirements, DE and AP course offerings, applicable CTE programs, etc. for Brevard Public schools can be found in the Student Progression Plan on the BPS Curriculum and Instruction website.

  • https://www.stepupforstudents.org/ Scholarship resources available to students in Florida in a variety of categories (tax credit, unique abilities, New Worlds reading, Hope, transportation, etc.)

  • For more information contact Jobie Woltman, School Guidance Counselor and Enterprise Military Point of Contact.

Resources and Educational Opportunities for Military Children

  • Enterprise has many clubs and opportunities for all students, including our military students.

    • We offer and Academic Support Program for students identified as needing additional assistance. Program dates and times vary by grade level. For additional information contact Stephanie Terapak, Assistant Principal.

    • We also have a National Elementary Honor Society open to students that excel in both academics and character. This club meets bi-weekly on Thursday afternoons.

    • In additional to academics, we have a variety of clubs including art club, chorus, orchestra, running club, volleyball club, STEM club, and more. Dates and times for these clubs vary throughout the year.

Student Led Transition Program

  • We look forward to welcoming your military family here at Enterprise. Our Student Led Transition Program is hosted by our National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS).

    • New students are paired with a NEHS student. Together, the students go on a school tour and learn about all the amazing programs Enterprise has to offer. After their initial meeting, students are provided time to check-in on each other monthly. The goal is that the NEHS students are a familiar face to our new students and help ease the transition.

  • BPS is committed to ensuring a peer-led, safe, and positive transition for students from military families into our schools. For support, please contact the Military Point of Contact listed at the top of this webpage.

The Dandelion

The official flower of the military child is the dandelion. Why?

The plant puts down roots almost anywhere, and it's almost impossible to destroy. It's an unpretentious plant, yet good looking. It's a survivor in a broad range of climates.

Military children bloom everywhere the winds carry them. They are hardy and upright. Their roots are strong, cultivated deeply in the culture of the military, planted swiftly and surely. They're ready to fly in the breezes that take them to new adventures, new lands, and new friends.

Experts say military children are well-rounded, culturally aware, tolerant, and extremely resilient. Military children have learned from an early age that home is where their hearts are, that a good friend can be found in every corner of the world, and that education doesn't only come from school. They live history. They learn that to survive means to adapt, that the door that closes one chapter of their life opens up to a new and exciting adventure full of new friends and new experiences

(Military Child Education Coalition, 2017).
